Inspections and Testing

No electrical system can be considered safe for use until it has been Tested and Inspected. All electrical systems deteriorate with age and use. Changes in regulations and improvements in materials often mean that wiring systems that  once met regulations no longer meet current regulations.

Recommended periods of Inspection and Testing for various types of installation are given below.

Type of installation Maximum period between inspection and testing
Domestic 10 years or change of occupancy
Commercial 5 years
Offices 5 years
Shops 5 years
Public houses 5 years
Village halls/community halls 5 years

This is important because Health and Safety at Work Act put the duty of care upon the employer to ensure safety of all person using the premises.

Out of hours inspections can be arranged if parts of the electrical system cannot be turned off during normal working hours

Our periodic inspection report gives a detailed condition of the electrical system and includes a full report on any remedial work that may be required to bring the installation up to a satisfactory standard.

PAT TestingPAT testing

The level of inspection and testing required varies according to the risk of the appliance becoming faulty, which is dependent upon the type of appliance and the environment in which it is used. PAT testing forms an important part of the Safety at Work Act 1974.
Increasingly the insurance industry is requiring that PAT testing is carried prior to the renewal of an insurance policy. This is because over 1000 work place accidents involving electrical shock are reported to the HSE every year.

We can carry out regular checks using our database to ensure these are not missed out or forgotten about.
